As a combat veteran of Panama, Desert Storm and Bosnia, I can tell you firsthand that it means the world to get a care package from home.
The troops fighting now deal with extreme hardship, such as the constant threat of death and dismemberment, loss of close friends in combat, long separations from family. They also have to deal with extremely austere living conditions in very harsh climates and environments against a savage and brutal enemy who is devoid of any semblence of humanity.
It is really special to know that one is not forgotten and that some person such as Don Downer takes the time and effort to send a taste of home. I sincerely hope more people in this country decide to step forward and support the troops through care packages and show patriotism in action like Don Downer does.
Our troops really need to know we Americans, whom they are fighting for, really care.
