I am shocked none of the good people of Howard County are upset speed and red light cameras do not ticket the individual driving the vehicle. No effort is made to identify the driver. Is this so unsafe drivers can stay on the road?
Red light and speed cameras would be useful if they identified offending drivers so their licenses could be revoked. Instead, these cameras are employed to build an Orwellian society where the rule becomes "guilty until able to prove innocence."
Your elected officials didn't submit automatic ticket generation to a county-wide vote. Perhaps next time they'll decide to use cameras to identify turn-signal violations.
It's your county. Decide what you want. I suggest voting for someone else in the next election.

This is how you know it's about cash and not safety. If it was about safety, you'd want to identify the drive. According to the IIHS, the registered owners is the driver only 72% of the time. This system cites the wrong person 28% of the time! Additionally, the cameras do not and cannot prevent the most dangerous of red light violations - the unintentional violation! According to the Federal Highway Administration, RLC's only reduce accidents by 0.01%, and injuries by 4.77%. This is insignificant considering that engineering measures such as light timing adjustments, signs, signial visibility, etc. can have PERMANENT safety benefits that easily exceed these figures, come with no or little cost, and achieve compliance naturally. The thought that you can take a dangerous intersection and make it safer by fining people is absurd! You need to FIX THE INTERSECTION. PhotoRadarScam.com
