Thomas C. Kierzkowski began his career with the Howard County Public School System in 1983. He was located at the central office and held the position of director of facilities. In 1989 his office was relocated to the Harriet Tubman Building.

Tom K, as he is affectionately known, has a tremendous responsibility as director of facilities for the HCPSS, overseeing the building maintenance operation, the custodial division and the grounds department. Tom K oversees the various departments, budgets, employees and managers with a cool and confident demeanor.

He would often oversee renovations of existing buildings or repairs that needed to be done when a building was not occupied. If it needed to be done on a weekend, Tom K would be there to supervise.

Tom Kierzkowski is an approachable individual as well as a wonderful leader. He runs the facilities department with firm management skills. However, his door is always open and he is always willing to listen and consider employee input. Personal situations arise in everyone's life, and Tom K is sensitive to those issues as well as supportive.

If there is a problem, whether it is personal or professional, Tom K will work with you to find an acceptable solution.

We all love to hear Tom K's stories. He has a natural "storytelling voice," and you are disappointed when the story ends. He also has a great sense of humor.

Tom K will retire on June 30, 2008, and this wonderful leader and dear friend will be missed.
