Thank you, Wilde Lake Village Board chairman Vince Mirando and Columbia Association board representative Philip Kirsch ("Kimco village center plan ignores its historic function," letters, June 19) for being champions of the residents of Wilde Lake.
Kimco Realty's plan, as it stands, shows no consideration for the needs of the residents of Wilde Lake. Have they never read the vision upon which Columbia was founded? People are the main consideration. The only additional retail space we need is that which would be provided by a food store. That would not only serve the needs of the residents but also preserve James Rouse's vision.
Five hundred apartments (with an average increase of 1,000 residents) with no conveniences for their well-being is not a plan for anything but profit for Kimco.

Wilde Lake VC cannot support a traditional grocery store, as evidenced by the fact that a full size grocery store cannot stay in business in that area. Luckily, there are many great grocery stores in Columbia like Harris Teeter and Trader Joe's. Wegmans is coming soon and Safeway in Harper's Choice is right around the corner.
