Michael Campanaro scored three touchdowns in the first half as River Hill began defense of its 2007 state title with a 42-7 win at Atholton Friday night. The game was the season opener for both schools.

Ryan Griffin and Malek Redd also scored rushing touchdowns for the Hawks (1-0 county, 1-0 overall), and linebacker Patrick McCleaf scored on a 35-yard interception return. The only score for Atholton (0-1, 0-1) came on a 5-yard run by Eddie Robinson with 2:32 left in the game. That play was set up by junior quarterback Kalvin Seamonson's 34-yard scramble.

Scott Trench was 6-for-6 on extra point attempts for River Hill, which won its 15th consecutive game.

River Hill will take its 15-game winning streak into its next game, the team's home opener, against the Oakland Mills Scorpions Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. Atholton will look for its first win when it takes on Howard High School Sept. 12.
