The 2009 dual meet season begins June 20 with six teams from the Laurel area. The MVP Dolphins are at West Laurel in Division A; Montpelier is at Whitehall in Bowie in Division B; Marlton is at West Arundel in Division C; Russett is at Fort Washington in Division D; and Prince George’s Park and Recreation is at Severn and Accokeek is at Laurel City in Division F. The Prince George’s is based at Old Gunpowder Road in West Laurel at the Fairland Aquatic Center. The new coach for Montpelier is Manga Dalizu, a long-time coach at Fairland Aquatic Swin Team (FAST). Dalizu takes over for Matt Harris, who helped Kenyon College win the Division III title this past season. “The team is fairly strong. It should be interesting,” said Dalizu, who spent 16 summers with a Prince Mont team in Ashton. The new coach at West Laurel is Kris Santos, a graduate of Eleanor Roosevelt and a long-time swimmer and coach at Montpelier. He heard about the opening at West Laurel earlier this year. “It sounded like a good opportunity and I jumped at it,” said Santos, who added his team has about 150 swimmers.
Reports must be sent to the Laurel Leader by Monday at 9 a.m. with double and triple winners for Laurel teams and the score of the meet. Send to laurelsports@patuxent.com
