Central Maryland Swim League

Despite persistent clouds, intermittent rain and an early end because of a thunderstorm, the Atholton Swim Club Barracudas' first dual meet of the season resulted in a 230-110 win over the Country Club of Glen Burnie in a Central Maryland Swim League meet.

The Barracuda posted 97 personal-best times.

In the 9-10 girls age group, Ally VanNetta won all four of her individual events. Timmy VanNetta placed first in his three individual events in the 7-8 boys age group, and set a new team record in the 25-meter backstroke event.

Also winning three individual events were Taylor Myers (9-10 boy), Rachel Quinn (11-12 girls) and Philip Ramis (13-14 boy).

Double winners for the Barracudas included Sarah Daly, Michael Keenan and Kaitlyn Warner. Winning single events were Temple Andrews, Alison Arnold, Will Essl, Casey Flynn, Sarah Hall, Meghan Layug, Ryan Murphy, Kristen O'Malley and Matthew Warner.

Six Atholton swimmers posted qualifying times for the Straehle Invitational. They were Alison Arnold (50 backstroke), Will Essl (50 freestyle), Sarah Hall (100 IM, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly), Ally VanNetta (100 IM, 50 freestyle, 25 backstroke and 25 butterfly), Timmy VanNetta (25 freestyle, 25 backstroke and 25 butterfly), and Kaitlyn Warner (100 freestyle and 50 backstroke).

Roger Carter

In between thunder, lightning, pouring rain and delays The Roger Carter Seals started their 2009 season with a 292.5-274.5 win against the Smallwood Village Aquatic Club Marlins from Waldorf.

After the last rain delay, the Seals came back strong winning three of the six individual medleys and sweeping all three freestyle relays to secure their win.

The Seals, who compete in the Prince-Mont Swim League, were the 2008 undefeated champions of Division F. They are now swimming in the league's D Division.

North St. John's

The North St. John's Blue Marlins, returning to Division 1 of the Central Maryland Swim League in 2009, lost to the Meadowbrook Tomatoes, 329.5-148.5, June 21, but the meet featured two new team records and 20 different swimmers taking first place in their events.

Kayla Snyder broke the 9-10 girls 100 individual medley record with a time of 1:22.81 and Deanna Parsons broke the 13-14 girls 50 backstroke record with a time of 33.44.

Julia Manning took first place in the three events and Renee Parsons, Andrew Smith and Kayla Snyder took first place in two events.

West Howard

The West Howard swim team defeated South Carroll, 266-220, in its first dual meet of the season. The Wahoos were leading by nearly 20 points after the individual medley events, faltered to a four-point lead after backstroke, then widened and held the lead through the relays.

Kaitlyn O'Byrne, Joseph Roschella and Cassie Jordan won all three of their individual events. Winners of two first-place awards were Matt Byrd, Grace Meissner, Matt Thompson, Lauren Baker and Caroline Browning. Jenny Lucas, Amelia Browning, Ashley O'Byrne, Hannah Aud, Alex Symmes, Ian Bosley and Julie Meissner each scored a single win.
