Hammond Park

The Hammond Park Stingrays ended their season with the Central Maryland Swim League Division II championship meet July 25 at South Carroll Swim Club.

Hans Wicklein was a double winner for the Stingrays; Jack Saunderson, Lance Taweel and Charlotte Ravel won single events. The Stingrays had a total of 84 personal best times.

Several members of the team also participated in the Straehle Individual Championship meet July 22. Team highlights include Wicklein's two eighth-place finishes (individual medley and freestyle) and a sixth place in the backstroke. Also doing well were Clair O'Shaughnessy (8. butterfly), Jack Saunderson (7. butterfly), Michelle D'Costa (6. breaststroke) and Marcus Osborn (4. breaststroke).

Saunderson, Stephen Sims, Drew Rutten and Wicklein took a fourth in the 11-12 boys relay.

Roger Carter

Last Saturday, the Roger Carter Seals took 39 of their top swimmers to the PrinceMont Divisional swim meet at the Russett Swim Club in Laurel. Competing against five other teams in Division D, the Seals ended the day winning the meet with a score of 257.5 points.

By placing first or posting within the top 18 times in the PrinceMont League, Vincent Choo, Daniel Gao, Jonathan Hao, Shannon Hochkeppel, Troy Hochkeppel, Kevin Hu, Wynne Kirchner, Heidi Li, Lisa Li, Nancy Liu, Jeffrey Tse, Alan Wang, Joseph Wang, Justin Wang, Ashley Wong and Sarah Zhang will be going to the All Star meet Aug. 1

Justin Wang (10-U butterfly), Shannon Hochkeppel (10-U butterfly), Jeffrey Tse (11-12 breaststroke, backstroke and individual medley) and Joseph Wang (8-U backstroke) broke Russett pool individual records. Troy Hochkeppel, Lisa Li, Sarah Zhang and Joseph Wang (8-UM) and Daniel Gao, Jeffrey Tse, Wynne Kirchner and Jonathan Hao (9-10B) broke Russett's pool records in the freestyle relays.

Last week was a busy week for the Atholton Barracudas. On July 20, 14 swimmers represented the club against six other teams at the Crofton Aquatics Novice Meet. The Barracudas entered 27 events and posted 24 best times. Nathan Daly, Sarah Daly and Madison Haugh each won events.

The Straehle Invitational, the Central Maryland Swim League's championship meet, was next on the schedule. The meet was held July 22. Fifty teams and 1,158 swimmers from the league competed at the Four Seasons Swim Club in Hampstead.

At the meet, new Atholton team records were set by Sarah Hall (15-18G butterfly), Timmy VanNetta (7-8B backstroke) and Kaitlyn Warner (13-14G breaststroke).

In the individual events, 13 best times were recorded by Atholton swimmers, and each of the five relay teams also recorded best times, knocking off a total of almost 27 seconds among them.

Barracuda swimmers ended the summer swim season at the CMSL Division VI Championship meet July 25 at the Freedom Swim Club. Fifty swimmers competed in 59 events, resulting in 13 first place finishes in individual events, and four first place finishes in relays.

Timmy VanNetta (7-8) won all three of his individual events. Ally VanNetta won three individual events and swam on a winning relay. Philp Ramis (13-14) won two individual events and swam on a winning relay team. Ben Cohen (11-12), Julia Habiger (9-10) and Kaitlyn Warner (13-14) each won one individual event and were part of the winning relay team in their age group.

Other winners for the Barracudas were Taylor Myers and Rachel Quinn. Morgan Carroll, Lynn Cournoyer, Amanda Danaher, William Derenge, Will Essl, Ashleigh Frazier, Conor Habiger, Patrick Layug, Pinya Murphy, Ethan Nikiel and Matthew Sileo were all on winning relays.
