Former Mt. Hebron standout Aaron Maybin didn't expect to be spending his summer at home and is eager to spend this weekend in Buffalo, starting a three-week cram course to get ready for his first NFL season as a
member of the Bills.Maybin, who was the 11th draft pick overall after playing at Penn State, agreed Friday to a five-year deal worth a maximum of $25
million with more than $14 million guaranteed, according to NFL sources,
The Buffalo News reported. He caught a flight out of Baltimore-Washington International Airport on Friday morning, and told
buffalobills.com that he had been spending his time
training back home while sitting out for 27 days.
Maybin did not accompany the team for its game in Green Bay Saturday night, but stayed back to get ready to practice with the Bills beginning on Monday.
"Really, I was just like, 'Man, all right, I know if I'm getting on this plane, I know we
must be close,'" Maybin, 21, said during a news conference at Bills headquarters in Orchard Park on Friday.
"I was really happy when that time came.
"Ecstatic, overjoyed, whatever you want to call it, that's me. I've been smiling from ear to
ear for the entire day."
Listed at 6 feet 4, 250 pounds, Maybin is a fast and aggressive pass-rushing specialist who is expected to help the Bills, who tied the Redskins for fifth-fewest sacks in the league last year. The Bills also think he will be able to play linebacker.
