It took only one week for the Centennial Eagles to put into play a lesson they learned from a loss, using a two-point conversion in an 8-7 win over visiting Reservoir (0-2) Saturday evening.

A week earlier at Glenelg, Centennial scored first in overtime and kicked the extra point, only to watch Glenelg score moments later and win the game with a two-point conversion.

Against Reservoir on Saturday, the Eagles (1-1) trailed, 7-6, after a Kyle Young five-yard touchdown early in the final quarter, and decided to go for two.Young charged up the middle to put the Eagles ahead.

After a scoreless first half, Reservoir broke the ice with a 64-yard scoring drive to open the third quarter. The drive was punctuated by consecutive runs of 11, 14 and 18 yards -- for a touchdown -- by Andy Bushong. Reservoir kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Centennial finally came alive at the start of the fourth quarter. Quarterback Matt Harbinson (filling in for the injured Greg Edmonds) lofted a 25-yard pass to Garrett Kelly. Then Young ran the ball on three straight plays for 19, 11 and 5 yards to reach the end zone.

"They weren't stopping the sweeps, and once we were getting the sweeps they pulled out a little more and we were able to go up the middle," said Young, who rushed for more than 80 yards.

After Young's two-point conversion run, Centennial had to keep Reservoir off the scoreboard for more than 10 minutes.

The Gators made it as far as the 25-yard line on their last effort, but the Eagles' defense held to secure the win.

"We came off a hard loss last week, and we needed to beat this team," Young said.

Bushong rushed for more than 100 yards for the Gators.
