The 15-game losing streak for Hammond is over, but for coach Dan Makosy the work has just begun.

The Golden Bears rode the rushing attack of Anton Haynes and Dionte Jones to four touchdowns and a 28-19 win over Oakland Mills Saturday afternoon for the program’s first win since Oct. 29, 2007. Now, Makosy is looking for more.

“I’m just happy for the kids, they are the ones that have been waiting a long time. They deserve this, they have been working really hard this summer,” said Makosy. “The next step is to win the rest of the games.”

Hammond came into Saturday's game with a 3-30 record since the start of the 2006 season.

Jones, a freshman, started the scoring in the first quarter with a one-yard run. Oakland Mills answered with a 61-yard touchdown pass from Jarod Montoya to Terrence Drew. A failed kick, however, left the score at 7-6.

Thanks to touchdown runs by Jones and Haynes in the first four minutes of the second quarter, the Scorpions never got closer the rest of the way.
