After going winless in its first five games, Marriotts Ridge turned things around last week with three victories.

Two days later, the Mustangs captured their own tournament with a 2-0 victory over Walkersville in the championship game.

Seven minutes into the second half, Kanner scored off an assist from Price. Brewer added the final goal with five minutes left.
"Although Maxine and Katie put the points on the board, it truly was a team effort," Grey said. "Over the past couple of games, the girls have finally started to click as a team. This bodes well for us, especially with playoffs on the horizon."

Howard got a first-half goal from Lauren Groft and two goals with under 10 minutes left in the game from Nicole Clark and Allison Green in a 3-0 win over host Long Reach.
"Long Reach played some tough defense and I had counted 22 saves for their goalie," said Osterberger.
Long Reach coach Josh Webster agreed, and said goalkeeper Courtney Glasser had a "stellar performance" and that Abby Kramer "played phenomenal defense."
River Hill blanked visiting Wilde Lake, 2-0. Early in the second half, Amy Triscoli was fouled in the box and Sally Meehan converted the penalty kick. With about 25 minutes left in the game, Allie Kohr scored off an assist from Anna Theisen.

"It was the 'sickest' goal I've ever seen," Kincaid said.
Marriotts Ridge keeper Caitlin Paddy made 10 saves. Bishop, her Glenelg counterpart, had five saves.
Parker and Hinkle scored as Glenelg edged Towson, 2-1, in a fast-paced game last week. Glenelg's defense, led by Christina Giampalmo and Christy Bishop (five saves), blunted Towson's offense.

"It's nice to be on the right end of it for once," Mt. Hebron coach Mike Linsenmeyer said. "We've played some unbelievably tough competition right here at the beginning and I think the guys are learning what it takes to win these tight games."
Howard picked up its second county victory against Long Reach, 2-0, on Oct. 2. Ryan Masterlerz and Wesley Furr accounted for the Lions' goals in the game that finished as the team's second shutout of the season.

Hammond won its second game in a row with a 39-20 homecoming win over Mt. Hebron Saturday.
Last week, Hammond ended a 15-game losing streak with a victory over winless Oakland Mills. On Saturday, though, the Bears roughed up a team that had won two games.
Senior quarterback Anton Haynes recovered a Mt. Hebron fumble on the first play of the game, and six plays later pushed the ball into the end zone from one yard out for a 6-0 lead. Three plays into Mt. Hebron's next drive, Haynes intercepted a pass and returned it to the Mt. Hebron 17-yard line. Three plays later, freshman tailback Dionte Jones scored from a yard out and added a two-point conversion.
The Vikings were down 14-0, and never recovered.
"The turnovers didn't help and they (Hammond) were very opportunistic, but we physically got beat; the better team won," Mt. Hebron coach Ross Hannon said. "Anybody overlooking them, looking somewhere else is going to find themselves in a dogfight."
Mt. Hebron scored twice in a three-minute span -- an 11-yard pass from Clint Huber to Mike McCarthy and a Huber keeper -- straddling the third and fourth quarters to cut the Hammond lead to 27-20. But the Bears responded with two more touchdowns in the next five minutes, on runs by Christian James and Devon Paye, to put the game away.
"We're not the same old Hammond that went 0-10 last year. We're the new Hammond," Haynes said. "We're not the underdogs anymore."
Haynes and Paye scored two rushing touchdowns each for the Bears.
Long Reach defeated Marriotts Ridge, 34-8, Friday night to improve to 4-1. It was the Lightning's first win by more than a touchdown this season, though. Junior Phillip Rhoden returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown and made a second-quarter interception that led to a second score.
Marriotts Ridge, which won seven games last year but is struggling with injuries and a lack of seniors, put together a solid drive on the second series of the game. Greg Stokes, a converted lineman, ran for gains of 16 and 17 yards, and Bryce Garipay threw a short pass to Armani Dixon, who beat his pursuers to the outside, then sprinted up the sideline for a 38-yard touchdown.
Long Reach's Kwasi Sarpong scored three touchdowns.
"(Their running game) just wears on you," Marriotts Ridge coach Ken Hovet said. "We didn't help ourselves with turnovers, bad field position and special teams ... but they were tough. We have eight kids over here on the sideline (injured) out of 32 ... that makes it hard to have any consistency, but the kids are doing what they can. They're playing hard."
The Lightning defense, which held Marriotts Ridge to 125 yards rushing, was led by Adam Scanlan-Berman (11-yard sack on fourth down), Damon Daniels (blocked pass), David Dayhoff (tackle for seven-yard loss), David Foster (six-yard sack) and Anthony Brown (fumble recovery).
E.J. Gilman (109) and Khalil Vierra (107) teamed up to rush for more than 200 yards and two touchdowns each in Wilde Lake's 34-6 win at Centennial. Centennial's touchdown was on a 21-yard pass from Matt Harbinson to Kyle Young. Wilde Lake quarterback Joe Kelly was 6-for-6, passing for 101 yards. Glenelg scored 28 unanswered points in the second half, and allowed a late touchdown to account for the final score, 28-21.
"They're a really good team, they're going to win some games," Glenelg coach Butch Schaffer said of his opponent.
Senior Shannon Maura led the Glenelg offense with 171 yards on 20 attempts. Quarterback Gage Trawick completed eight of his 13 pass attempts for 119 yards and two touchdowns, one each to Colin Osborne and David Marsh.
River Hill won its 33rd game in a row, but Howard gave the Hawks a battle in a 30-15 loss. It was River Hill's closest regular-season game since a 12-0 win over Wilde Lake last year.
Howard's A.J. Bonavitacola proved his mettle against one of the state's best defenses, rushing for 150 yards and touchdowns of 54 and 32 yards, and scoring a two-point conversion.
River Hill's John McMichael (two) and Thomas Neuberth scored rushing touchdowns, Thomas Erdman scored on an 11-yard punt block return and Amir Shahegh kicked a 22-yard field goal.

Centennial won a clash of recent state champions Thursday night defeating Reservoir, 25-20, 25-13, 25-22.
The Eagles were eliminated by Mount de Sales at the Bulldog Invitational the previous weekend.
"I needed a good check. Bulldog was a wake up. We're a good team, but we didn't play like a good team at Bulldog. Tonight we played like the team that I think we are," Centennial coach Larry Schofield said.
Centennial (2004-2006, 2008) and Reservoir (2007) have combined to win the last five Bulldog titles, and state titles each of those years, but were both unsuccessful last weekend. River Hill made it the farthest, losing in the title match to Mount de Sales. Reservoir lost to River Hill in the semifinals of the Bulldog.
Senior Julie Poston led the Gators with 11 kills. Liz Lee (four), Paige Calvert (three) and setter Shelby Morris (three) contributed another 10.
The Eagles were led by Sam Brostrom's 16 kills and three aces. Nine of Brostrom's kills came in the final game alone. Serving specialist Victoria Rain sent five aces over the net. Klima (six kills, two point blocks), May Yang (four kills, point block), Sarah Hall (two kills, three point blocks) and Liz Brown (five kills, point block) produced from the front row.
Centennial and River Hill are now the last two undefeated teams in the Howard County league: they'll face off next Friday, Oct. 9 at Centennial.
