Pallotti, in its four previous games, scored 32 points while losing three of those contests. But the Panthers erupted on Oct. 16, coming from behind to beat host Friends, 42-35, in a MIAA C league game.

Matt DeFrank had three touchdowns, including a punt return for a score, Allen Bright had two scores and Keith Charles had one touchdown for the Panthers. The Panthers are now 3-4 overall and 2-1 in C league play. Pallotti, which was off the weekend of Oct. 10, plays Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. at Baltimore Lutheran in another C league game.

"I think we definitely came together" on offense, said Cory Anna, a Pallotti tight end who also starts on defense. "Our offensive line was doing really good. All of our running backs had a good game."

What sparked the Pallotti offense, which was shutout in two straight games earlier this year? "The preparation for the game. We had a two-week layoff," said Rafi Correa, the sophomore quarterback for Pallotti. "We executed like we should every time. We are pretty much a run-heavy team."

The Panthers will aim for a 3-1 league mark on the road Oct. 23 at Baltimore Lutheran. The four teams in the C division play the other three teams twice each. "We are definitely going to win if our offense clicks like it did Friday," Anna said.

Pallotti's goal before the season was to win the league title after playing at the B level in 2008. "It is realistic. Our goal at the beginning of the year was to go 6-0," Correa said. "The loss to Annapolis Area Christian really hurt us" Correa said of the Sept. 25 game Pallotti lost 16-13 at Fairland Regional Park.

Laurel will face High Point

For the second time in two years as the Laurel head coach, Brian Moore will face his alma mater on the road. The High Point High graduate will lead the Spartans into a Prince George's Class 4A league game Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. in Beltsville. The game was originally slated for Oct. 16 but was postponed due to heavy rain.

Laurel is 2-4 and has lost three straight games. High Point is 0-6, but the Eagles beat the Spartans last year at High Point. Laurel center Wilmer Diaz, who missed the Oct. 10 game against Parkdale with a high ankle sprain, is slated to play against High Point, according to Moore.

The Spartans will be without senior running back DeAntae Love, who was injured in the last drive in the 35-22 loss to Parkdale at Laurel with a stress fracture of his right foot, according to Moore. Love has received attention from college programs at Towson, James Madison, Maine and Indiana State, according to Moore. Love is slated to miss the rest of the season. Laurel is aiming for its first winning season since 1997.

Laurel practiced in its gymnasium on Cherry Lane on Oct. 17 after the game with High Point was pushed back. "We go full gear in the gym. You can do great teaching inside," Moore said. The Laurel junior varsity game with High Point will most likely not be made up, Moore said. The Spartans JV team is 3-3.
