It's Week 10 and by now teams know whether or not they'll be playing postseason football. Atholton (8-1) has locked down the second seed in the 3A East, and Glenelg (8-1) has secured the second seed in the 2A South. Win or lose, they won't be moving from those spots.

Still, there is plenty on the line for both teams in their season finale Friday, Nov. 6 at Atholton. For one, no one wants to end the regular season with a loss.

"I think momentum is huge, especially after losing last week," said Kyle Schmitt, who lost his first game as Atholton head coach Oct. 30, 35-14, at River Hill. "You don't want to go into the playoffs after losing two in a row."

The Raiders can finish 5-0 at home this year and nine regular-season wins would be a school record.

Schmitt said he would be careful with some of his players. Starting running back Andrew King and defensive end Brian Anthony were both injured in the River Hill loss and could be game-time decisions. Everyone who is healthy will play, though.

"We only play 10 games a year, we don't play enough games to be sitting anyone," Schmitt said.

Glenelg coach Butch Schaffer agrees.

"We're going to play every game as hard as we can, fly to the ball and keep playing as long as we have another game," he said.

The Atholton-Glenelg winner would finish in second place in the county, assuming River Hill (9-0) beats Centennial (4-5) for its 38th consecutive victory and the county championship. If River Hill loses, the winner of the Glenelg-Atholton game would have a share of the county title.

"We're not anticipating that or really worrying about it," Schaffer said.

What Schaffer is anticipating is another big game from Atholton's quarterback-receiver combo of Kalvin Seamonson and Matt Robinson. The pair has connected on 37 passes for 781 yards and eight TDs.

"They throw the ball really well, (Robinson) might be the best receiver I've seen in a long time. There's a reason he's going to have a chance to play for Maryland," Schaffer said. "I hope it rains and there are 50-mile-per-hour winds (on Friday), but I don't think that's going to happen."

Glenelg's offense is led by running backs Shannon Maura and junior Colin Osborne, who combined for more than 250 yards last week. Quarterback Gage Trawick also had a 25-yard TD pass to Maura.

Atholton has scored 256 points so far (second in the league), and allowed 153 (fifth). Glenelg has scored 212 (fourth) and allowed 134 (third).

"I told the kids the playoffs started last week with River Hill," Schmitt said. "It's a blast. I'm enjoying it."
