The puck dropped at the Gardens Ice House, in Laurel, for six of the 11 Howard County Maryland Scholastic High School League teams' first league game Nov. 20.
Howard defeated Reservoir, 5-4, in a game that went down to the last minute. Howard's Justin Green tied the game and Eric Wallis scored the game-winner with 20 seconds left. It was his second goal of the game. Other goal scorers for Howard were Nick Calvitt and Tyler Overstreet. Wallis, Calvitt, Overstreet and Green all had assists. Net minder Ross Haymen turned away 11 goals.
Ryan Sabot kept Reservoir in the game by stopping 30 shots on goal. Reservoir's scoring came from Tyler Smith and Darian Miller (three). Smith (two) and Brandon Dean had assists.
River Hill defeated Centennial, 12-0, using the new no-mercy ruling where the full three periods are played. The game goes to a running clock in the second and third period when there is a six-goal difference. Centennial is building back up from losing high scorers Matt Bloom and Jean Luc Durantaye, who graduated last year.
River Hill's full bench of skaters dominated the game against a very short-benched Centennial. Gilbert Xue from River Hill faced 10 shots, earning his first shutout of the season. Centennial's netminder, Stephan Latona, faced 48 shots.
Jim Marlatt (four), Zach Lynes (two), Casey Carpenter (two), Chris Miller, Brian Tyrell (two), Jimmy Martin, Jake Grimes and Ryan Krug scored for River Hill
Glenelg defeated Wilde Lake, 10-3.
