Ice hockey

The Centennial Eagles and Howard Lions ice hockey alumni will face off in a game that continues their friendly rivalry. The game will be played Dec. 28 at 4:30 p.m. at the Columbia Ice Rink. Roster spots are limited. Alumni wishing to play should contact their respective coordinator: frankd@smart.net (Centennial alumni); lionshckey@aol.com (Howard alumni). There is a $10 player fee Admission will be charged.

Softball

Jodi Ceglia will lead a pitching clinic at Centennial High School five Sundays starting Feb. 14. The clinic meets indoors in the back gym and is offered in two levels -- beginners (limited or no pitching skill) and intermediate (basic to above average skill). The clinic times are 4-4:45 p.m. (beginners); 4:45-5:30 p.m. (intermediates). Each pitcher needs to bring a catcher. Cost: $150 per pitcher. Sign up by e-mailing jmeitl@yahoo.com.

Baseball

Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jason Berken will lead the Berken Baseball Camp Sat. and Sun., Dec. 19-20 at Meadowbrook Athletic Complex in Ellicott City. Registration is being accepted for the Howard County Winter Baseball Tune-up (ages 8-16). The clinic meets Sundays for four weeks from 10-noon at Hammond High School. The program begins Jan. 10 and costs $114. Register by Jan. 8 by calling 410-313-7275.

Tri-County Umpires Association is holding classes for anyone interested in umpiring youth baseball in Howard, Baltimore, Carroll and surrounding counties. Classes begin in early February. Call 410-916-5655 evenings. All games are paid in cash.

High school baseball players graduating in 2011-2014 can reserve a spot at the Mid-Atlantic High School Baseball Classic (the Crab Claw Classic). A day-long combine will be July 30 at Joe Cannon Stadium. Players will be selected to play in a televised game July 31.

Soccer

The Thunder Rockets (U-13 boys, NCSL Division 2) will hold supplemental tryouts for goalie, defender and forward positions Jan. 10, 17 and 24 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Howard Community College. E-mail mkbucci@verizon.net.

Football

The Baltimore Ravens and the DugoutZone will sponsor their annual clothing drive. Ravens' tackle Jared Gaither will sign free autographs and greet fans Dec. 29 from 6-7 p.m. Bring a new or freshly laundered article of cold weather clothing and receive an autograph for your donation. Coats and sweaters are always welcome but there is also a need for warm hats, scarves, socks and gloves.

Registration is underway for the Howard County Flag Football League on the turf. This is eight weeks of 5-on-5 flag football for girls or boys ages 5-14. Practices and games are outside on Saturdays at Cedar Lane Park, West. Volunteer coaches are needed; head coaches' children get a registration discount. Cost: $65. Basketball

Proud and Positive will hold a 10-week long basketball clinic on Saturdays at the Robert J. DiPietro Community Center in Laurel. The clinic will be held from 2-4 p.m. Feb. 6-April 10 (no clinic April 3) and is for age groups 6-8, 9-11 and 12-14. Cost: $150 (City of Laurel residents); 155 (nonresidents). Call 443-827-3160.

Team Sol (girls AAU) is looking for girls for the 2009-10 national team. Eligible players must be no older than 11 on Jan. 1, 2010 or in sixth grade. Call 410-977-1684.

Rugby

Registration is open for the Howard County Boys and Girls High School Rugby League. Experienced and novice players are welcome. Preseason practice will be held twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays) starting Jan. 18 at the Cedar Lane Park, West turf fields. Teams will be formed by the coaches. Matches start in March and end in late May. The league is co-sponsored by the Potomac Rugby Union. Volunteer adult coaches are needed. Register by calling 410-313-7275. Cost: $125.
