Basketball

Marriotts Ridge is hosting its first girls basketball holiday tournament Dec. 29 and 30. Dec. 29: Marriotts Ridge vs. Glenelg Country (5 p.m.) and Chapelgate vs. Wilde Lake (7 p.m.). Dec. 30: Wilde Lake vs. Glenelg Country (5) and Marriotts Ridge vs. Chapelgate (7).

Proud and Positive will hold a 10-week long basketball clinic on Saturdays at the Robert J. DiPietro Community Center in Laurel. The clinic will be held Feb. 6-April 10, 2-4 p.m. (no clinic April 3). For age groups 6-8, 9-11 and 12-14. Cost: $150 (City of Laurel residents); $155 (non-residents). Call 443-827-3160.

Softball

Jodi Ceglia will lead an indoor pitching clinic at Centennial High School five Sundays starting Feb. 14. The clinic is offered in two levels -- beginners (limited or no pitching skill) and intermediate (basic to above average skill). Clinic times are 4-4:45 p.m. (beginners); 4:45-5:30 p.m. (intermediates). Each pitcher needs to bring a catcher. Cost: $150 per pitcher. E-mail jmeitl@yahoo.com.

Baseball

Registration is being accepted for the Howard County Winter Baseball Tune-up (ages 8-16). Clinic meets Sundays for four weeks from 10 a.m.-noon at Hammond High School. The program begins Jan. 10 and costs $114. Register by Jan. 8 by calling 410-313-7275.

Tri-County Umpires Association is holding classes to work youth baseball games. Classes begin in early February. Call 410-916-5655 evenings. All games are paid in cash.

Football

Ravens tackle Jared Gaither will sign free autographs and greet fans Dec. 29 from 6-7 p.m. at the Ravens/DugoutZone annual clothing drive at The DugoutZone, 9210 Baltimore National Pike, Ellicott City. Bring a new or freshly laundered article of cold weather clothing and receive an autograph. Coats and sweaters are welcome, but there is also a need for warm hats, scarves, socks and gloves. Triathlon

Rugby

Registration is open for the Howard County Boys and Girls High School Rugby League. Preseason practice will be held twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays) starting Jan. 18 at the Cedar Lane Park, West turf fields. Teams will be formed by the coaches.
