Swimming

Howard County YMCA

The Howard County Y Manta Rays continued their winning season with another successful meet Jan. 9. The Manta Rays hosted YMCA teams from Carroll County and Randallstown at the newly renovated Dancel Family Center. This brings the Manta Rays to a 3-0 season with previous wins against Severna Park and Catonsville.

On Saturday, there were 49 first-place ribbons, including a sweep of 21 events. The entire team is continuing to improve with over 190 personal best times during this meet.

At HCY, 33 swimmers have achieved qualifying times for the SPY Winterfest meet at College Park this weekend. Additionally, 58 HCY swimmers have qualified thus far for the East Field South District Championships at Fairland Aquatic Center in March. More than another 50 are within seconds of qualifying for these championships.

The team is looking forward to having swimmers achieve qualifying times for Short Course Y Nationals in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The season continues with dual meets against Cecil County and Towson. Future invitational meets include the Queen City Classic in Cumberland and the C&P League Championships in Hagerstown.

At the end of February, HCY’s youngest swimmers will return to the Towson 8-and-under Mini Meet Championships at Towson University. They will work toward a fourth-consecutive win for the boys’ team, girls’ team, and overall team titles.
