“I was never worried. I always knew that we would come back,” said Mt. Hebron coach Tony Bell. “It’s our style.”
Centennial was up, 32-27, early in the fourth quarter and then went into a lull, which Mt. Hebron was happy to fill with three pointers (two for Kelly Jones and one for Kathleen Stafford) that helped spring the Vikings in front. Diandra Parker scored all six of her points in the final three minutes of the game as Mt. Hebron continued to pull away.
“They are our rival team, but any win is a big win, especially now that it’s coming down to the playoffs. We want to get a high seed,” Parker said.
The loss knocked Centennial out of a three-way tie for second place in the county.
“It’s good to knock off someone in the playoff hunt,” Bell said.
“We did not play for 32 minutes; we were not focused. You can get away like that with some teams but not with a team that is playing for a top four seed” like Mt. Hebron, Centennial coach Rob Slopek said.
The game was Centennial’s annual White Out Cancer fund raiser. The Eagles wore special white uniforms with pink trim and Mt. Hebron’s players wore pink socks.

River Hill 37, Oakland Mills 35
Oakland Mills knows it had the makings of an upset: hold River Hill to 37 points, don’t let Alex Vega score anything, and make Shantrel Oliver, the Hawks’ other to scorer, work hard for each of her 14 points.
But it takes more than that to beat River Hill. The Hawks, led by Nikki Piper’s 18 points, hit nine of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to escape with a 37-35 victory.
“We had a great practice yesterday but the execution was a little ‘different’ today,” said River Hill coach Teresa Waters.
“We had our chances,” said Oakland Mills coach Seth Willingham. He pointed out too many missed free throws in the fourth quarter.
On the positive side, Willingham said that Nicole Hill did an “awesome” job guarding Oliver, River Hill’s leading scorer.
“We’ve lost three games in a row to three pretty good teams,
“We’ve lost three games by six points to three pretty good teams,” Willingham said. Oakland Mills and River Hill meet again Feb. 16.
“We have just got to get better,” Waters said. “We have a long, long way to go to get where we want to be.”
