Lacrosse

HCLP Lightning

In the April 19 season opener for the HCLP Lightning (8-9 boys), Daine Vandewall scored with 30 seconds left in the game as Hobart pulled off a dramatic come-from-behind 8-8 tie against UNC. Kyle Roop started the scoring for Hobart. Raffaele Mannarelli, Casey Brennan, Grant Hanlon, Ned Menton, James Heimsoth, Austin Ohnmacht and Paul Cook also contributed to the offensive output. Christopher Simpson was stellar in goal and helped hold UNC to a 3-3 halftime tie. The Hobart defense was led by Ryan Synk, Terrell Credle, Steven Hilliard, Zachary Meyers and Tyler Bond. Wesley Tomlinson is also a member of the Hobart team.

The UNC roster includes Ben Briguglio, Logan Bruce, Kody Clark, Dean Fochios, Jack Fuller, Jake Grandolfo, Daniel Kelly, Austin Kraisser, Ben Lefkowitz, Justin Lidard, Tyler Monahan, Michael Moore, Caleb Morse, Nicholas Restivo, Jason Simpson and Matthew Wellde.

Gage Snook and Nick Sabella earned game balls as Hopkins edged UMBC, 8-5. Snook was recognized for his strong defensive play and Sabella for his offensive contribution of a goal and an assist. Other Hopkins goals were provided by Zach Beard (two), Brendan Youngs (two), Chris Moy, Sachin Kuruvilla and Brady Brunett. The unselfish play of Brian Decker, Sean Divver and Matt Baxter contributed to the team's success. The strong defensive play of Ian Salazar helped goalies Jake Smith and Brent Fischbein protect the lead. Zach Aldridge, Nick Morton and Bryce Baliff, all first-year players, also contributed with their spirited play.

UMBC lost its starting goalie, Ian Hill, in the first quarter. However, Will Hamman came in and played well with defensive help from Nick Suri and the other UMBC defenders. Logan Byas scored UMBC's first goal. In the second half, UMBC rallied with goals from Kyle Watts, Casey Allwein and Matt Leone (two) to close the lead. Unfortunately, it was not enough to catch Hopkins.

Salisbury defeated Navy, 7-4, on goals by Scott Bruner (four), Noah Schlossberg, Jack Kelly and Jake Brothers. Strong defense by Brian Kuttler, Aidan Karmazinski and Elliott Wolfe helped goalie Jordan Snead block Navy's offense. Helping fuel the fire for Salisbury were Nick Janos, Bryce Shuart, Conor Habiger and Josh Deamer.

Navy's goals came from Jarrett Snoots (two), Sam Kraus and Sean Armiger. Their team rallied from a 7-1 halftime deficit to pull to within three goals by game's end.
