The deadline for submitting sports copy is noon on Mondays. We prefer e-mail (howardcountysports@ patuxent.com) or fax (410-997-4564). We do not accept results by phone. Top Flight Gymnastics

The Top Flight Gymnastics (optional boys) competed in the Optional Regionals held in Lehigh Valley, Pa., on April 12-13. At the meet, Kyle Zemeir, Ray Taylor and Brandon Jones qualified for nationals, which will be held in Michigan.

The Level 4-7 girls competed in the Harford Trophy meet at Goucher College, in Baltimore, April 19-20. The Level 5 and 7 girls won second place.

Lacrosse

Cobra Lacrosse travel

Cobra Lacrosse Lightning B West defeated Reisterstown, 10-1. The Cobra offense controlled the game, getting goals from Michael Dolan, Jack Parr, Matthew Mayer, Joey Brewer, Elijah Darden, Jacob Friedman and Noah Taylor. Ryan Gochar and Collin Silk supported the team with multiple assists.

The defense, led by Matthew Blodgett, Steven Segrist, Brady Kinner, Braxton Stone and Arman Medghalchi assisted goalie Spencer Gray in holding back Reisterstown, which scored its only goal in the last few minutes of play.

Cobra Lightning B slipped by Reisterstown, 6-4, as Bailey Gilmore, Jack Grote (two), Brendan Wilkerson and Owen Gerus (two) scored. Grote also had two assists; Gerus had one.

In the fourth quarter Cobra kept the Reisterstown offense in check as Tommy Rolando saved four shots and Will Davis, Michael Patton and Anthony Valenza played shut down defense.

The Cobra A Lightning No. 1 lost to Fallston, 10-7, last week but defeated Towsontowne, 11-7, and Perry Hall, 11-5, to up its record to 4-1.

The Fallston game was a tough one, but Jordan Stevens (three), Allison Unkenholz, Rebecca Boyle, Lillie Miller and Briana Prescott all scored. Unkenholz and Martha Hutzell had assists. The defense was anchored by goalies Sarah Moore (two saves) and Allison Bishop (10 saves). Aggressive play by Tessa Kircher helped force Fallston turnovers.

Against Towsontowne, Stevens (four), Miller (three), Unkenholz, Hutzell, Jennifer Giles and Prescott found the net with their shots. Giles (three) and Devin McIntyre were among those who had assists.

Scoring goals in the game against Perry Hall were Miller (three), Unkenholz (three), Kathryn Kelehan (two), Cammy Case, Giles and Prescott. Alyssa Chalk had an assist. The defense was anchored by Kelsey Savje (nine saves) and Stevens (11 saves).

Howard County Lacrosse Program

Hopkins defeated UMBC (girls), 6-3, with goals scored by Bailee Thomas, Claire Martin and Kelsey Cummings. Caitlin Ohnmacht and Lily Kennedy led the team with catches and assists, while Marianna Hertel and Alexis Taylor showed great field play by scooping up ground balls. Camila Ranta and Miranda Alam were very strong in goal.

Emily Suter, UMBC's goalkeeper, was exceptional and made it extremely difficult for the Blue Jays to score.

In Lightning lacrosse (boys) Notre Dame defeated North Carolina, 8-4, with goals scored by Josh Koller, Clark Smith, Mak Kennedy and Ryan Tiffey.

The team kept the led by exceptional field play by Jeffrey Kordenbrock, Eric Biegel, Jackson Duffy, Bladen Miller and Steven Shumaker. Luke Boorady and Jake Dahan were aggressive on defense. Guy Scarpaci and Zeke Narcise had outstanding play in the goal.

North Carolina's Mike Moore anchored his team's offense while the steady goalkeeping kept the game close.

Grant Hanlon (three goals), Casey Brennan, Tyler Bond, Austin Ohnmacht, James Heimsoth and Daine Vandewall scored as the Hobart Statesmen held off UMBC, 8-5, for its first win of the season. Vandewall also had four assists.

Hobart's attack, which has scored 16 goals in two games received plenty of help from Wes Tomlinson, Chris Simpson, Raffaele Mannarelli, Steven Hilliard and Paul Cook.

Hobart held a 6-4 lead at the half but Bond slammed the door in the second half with a near shutout, giving up one goal on the last play of the game. The strong defensive effort also included Ned Menton, Zach Meyers, Ryan Synk, Kyle Roop and Terrell Credle whose punishing body checks earned him a game ball.

UMBC goalie Will Hamman played the entire game and led a spectacular defensive effort with five saves. He was supported by John Rochester, Nick Suri, Matt Murphy and Tommy Phipps with crucial defensive plays.

Matt Leone led the offensive effort with three goals. Connor Boyce and Logan Byas scored as well. Casey Allwein and Nicky Brown also had shots on goal. Kyle Watts and Ian Hill contributed by getting with ground balls.

Hopkins outlasted Syracuse, 9-4, in an evenly fought game that was close until the fourth quarter. Chris Moy's two goals and all-around play earned him a game ball. Rookie Bryce Baliff, who scored his first goal, received a game ball as well.

Brendan Youngs (two goals, two assists), Zach Beard (two goals, assist), Brian Decker (first goal) and Jack Smith also scored. Smith played in goal in the first half and made eight saves; Brent Fischbein stood tall in goal in the second half and recorded fours saves.

Greg Snook led the defensive play with help from Matt Baxter and Sachin Kuruvilla. Brady Brunett and Nick Sabella played an outstanding game, and Sean Diver was the groundball king with his toughness and hustle.

Austin Kraisser was outstanding in the Syracuse goal and kept Hopkins quiet for three quarters with his incredible goaltending. Matthew Wingate, Alex Pupshis, Tyler Holzman, Brock Palmer, Nick Coburn and Anthony Strunk all played great lacrosse for a Syracuse team that played with only two substitutes yet showed outstanding hustle and good sportsmanship.
