Soccer Association of Columbia travel
Kasey Gibbons, Ashley Ensor and Amy Egan helped the SAC United Flash (U-9 girls) come from behind in the second half to defeat Bethesda Blue, 5-4. The offense was supported by defenders Kristen Edwards and Suzy Byun. Kirsten Wikner, Sarah Binkley, Jayme Choe and Kate Johnson worked hard to keep Bethesda out of scoring position.
Brooke Walker and Katie Kennedy successfully fought off numerous attempts on goal.
The SAC United Premier (U-11 boys, NCSL Division 1) defeated CYA United, 7-1. SAC opened the game with the first goal scored on a free kick by Jacob Soriano. CYA responded with a goal, but SAC took control of the game by scoring three more times in the first half. Those scores came from Joe Tolson (two) and Alex Lingg. Max Dwyer and Chris Haskins assisted on Tolson's goals; Chad Strothers assisted Lingg.
SAC's offensive power continued in the second half with goals from Tolson, Mike Heitzmann and Javier Ward.

Howard County Striders
Ted Poulos and Karen Shouse were the top two-milers during the Howard County Striders' weekly races at Thunder Hill May 18. Luis Diaz and Katie O'Dunne led the 10k race with their first-place victories. Top finishers:

Pitch, Hit and Run
The Howard County Recreation and Parks department held the Howard County Pitch, Hit and Run contest May 11 at Western Regional Park. The winners of this sectional competition were:
7-8 baseball: Jeremy Huffman, EYO, 402 points.
7-8 softball: Courtney Furr, Howard County, 229.
9-10 baseball: James Cain, EYO, 652.
11-12 baseball: Peter Solomon, HCYP, 914.
13-14 baseball: Zach Davis, Taneytown, 818.
Lacrosse
HCPL Lightning league
Hobart won its fourth game of the season, 7-5, against a solid Hopkins squad. The Statesmen attack was led by Daine Vandewall (four goals), Raffi Mannarelli (two), Grant Hanlon (one) and supported by Wes Tomlinson, Ned Menton, Ryan Synk and Kyle Roop. The hustle of middies Paul Cook, Christopher Simpson, Casey Brennan, James Heimsoth and Austin Ohnmacht won numerous ground ball battles.
Hopkins was led by the emerging play of Zach Aldrich which earned him a game ball. Goals were scored by Nick Sabella (two), Brian Decker, Brendan Youngs and Sachin Kuruvilla.
Hopkins outlasted Navy, 4-2. Navy goals were scored by Sean Armiger and Will Miller, and aggressive play was added by Hayden Mikk, Casey Waller, Sam Kraus and Jarrett Snoots.
Hopkins was led by Brian Decker's great all-around play, which earned him a game ball. Ian Salazar played goalie in the first half with five saves and then moved to field defense in the second half. He also earned a game ball.
Brendan Youngs led the Hopkins scorers with two goals.
Notre Dame knocked off previously undefeated Hobart, 5-1, with goals from Luke Boorady (first of the year), Clark Smith and Matthew Kennedy (two each). Danny Callahan, Eric Biegel, Jeffrey Kordenbrock, Ryan Tiffey, Bladen Miller and Jackson Duffy controlled the ball.
The lone strike for Hobart was fired by Grant Hanlon.
