The Howard County Recreation and Parks department held the Howard County Pitch, Hit and Run contest May 11 at Western Regional Park. The winners of this sectional competition qualify to participate in the team championship to be held at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, in Baltimore. The sectional age-group winners were:
7-8 baseball: Jeremy Huffman, EYO, 402 points.
7-8 softball: Courtney Furr, Howard County, 229.
9-10 baseball: James Cain, EYO, 652.
11-12 baseball: Peter Solomon, HCYP, 914.
13-14 baseball: Zach Davis, Taneytown, 818.
Triathlon
Last weekend DU2R Multisport has two members racing in Florida and seven others competing in the Columbia Triathlon.
In Florida, Kerri Robbins won the 35-39 age in the Sharks Triathlon with a time of 2:18:46. Lee Wilk placed third in the 50-54 age group in the Sharks Duathlon (2:28:32).
In the Columbia Triathlon, Suzy McCulloch placed third in 25-29 (2:27:44);
Trey Cassidy was seventh in the 40-44 (2:16:37); Scott Heyrick placed fourth in 14-17 (2:59:52); Kristina Adams placed sixth in 35-39 (2:38:59); Chuck Potter placed 61st in the 35-39 (2:36:07); Michele McGleish placed 26th in the 40-44 (2:52:31), and Judi Carbary placed fourth in the 55-59 (3:10:43).
Cheerleading
1st Class Gymnastics, in Annapolis, is offering an all-star cheerleading program, including a Level 5 senior team. Boys and girls ages 5-18, and all levels of experience, are invited to try out. In-line hockey
The county rec department is registering for its youth and adult in-line hockey leagues. The youth leagues begin Aug. 27 (middle school division) and Sept. 7 (high school division). Players are placed on teams based on age and skill level. Cost: $75 per child with a discount rate of $50 if the child's parent/guardian volunteers as head coach.
The adult league is for players ages 18 and over and begins Sept. 7. Cost: $600 per team or $75 per individual.
Officials (ages 16 and over) are also needed. Positions are available for all days and times. Officiating experience is necessary.
