Bailey Tabor had four goals and Sam Hendershot added the other as Georgetown defeated Hobart, 5-4. Kyle Wiggins and Alex Pelligrini each contributed an assist. Garrett Lally, Daniel Hopkins and Ryan Tuma supplemented the offensive effort. Outstanding goaltending by Cade Buch and Tyler Poole and solid defense by Bennett Buch, Teagan Ringstad, Nathan Lin, Mathew Rueter, Brenan Batten and Kyle Ogden helped secure the outcome.
Hobart's strikes came from Casey Brennan, Austin Ohnmacht, Grant Hanlon and Daine Vandewall. Other quality shots on goal came from Kyle Roop, Ryan Synk, Paul Cook, Steven Hilliard, Raffaele Mannarelli and Christopher Simpson. Middies Ned Menton, James Heimsoth and Tyler Bond fought hard for ground balls. Hobart's defense, led by Terrell Credle, Wesley Tomlinson and Zach Meyers, was strong against Georgetown.
Brendan Youngs scored the tying goal and Brian Decker was credited with the game-winner as Hopkins edged Towson, 5-4. Youngs also had an assist, and his great all-around play earned him a game ball. Jack Smith, Zach Beard (goal, assist) and Chris Moy rounded out the scoring. Brent Fischbein was tough in goal as was Smith who single-handedly kept Hopkins in the game with five third-quarter saves. Brady Brunett, Max Baxter and Sean Divver also had good all-around play.
Towson started the game strong with two goals by Ryan Steinberg. Mike Heitzmann scored two goals via assists by Ben Chodnicki and Danny Issac giving Towson a 4-2 halftime lead. Despite a strong effort by goalie Phillip Hilliard (10 saves) and defensive help from Zach Wolf and Garrett Waller, Towson could not withstand the Hopkins' comeback effort.

Running
Remembrance Run 5k
Steve Crane and Lindsay Wilkins won The Columbia Rotary Club's 2nd annual Remembrance Run 5k May 26 in Columbia Gateway Business Center. Crane, from Silver Spring, and running the whole way with his training partner, Robbie Wade, crossed the finish line in 15:37, only .27 seconds in front of Wade. It was Crane's third consecutive victory in his three races in Columbia, as he won the November Metric Marathon and the Feb. 10 Mile RRCA Club Challenge Race.
Wilkins, from Arlington, Va., had an easy time of it in the women's race, posting a time of 18:12, more than a minute ahead of second-place finisher Katie Breitenbach, and fast enough for 11th place overall.
The race was very much a family affair, with a 1 mile Family Fun Walk as part of the holiday celebration. Families made up a big portion of the 5k race award winners, too. The Gessler family had the largest impact, with father, Bobby, and his four daughters all winning awards -- Julie, 14, was fifth female overall.
The Demarees were second with three youngsters taking prizes, led by Anna, 15, who was the fourth female overall.
Greg Schuler (third in his age group) and Eric (first in the 15-19 age group) led the fathers and sons, while Jason Tripp (first in the 30-39 age group) and nine-year-old Jane (third in the under-13 age group) led the fathers and daughters. Joseph and Elizabeth Toth also were both age group award winners.
Captain Todd Crooks from Warrensburg, Mo., visiting family in the area, won the active military award, while his wife, Micaela, was third in her age group.
The Memorial Day event was marked by patriotic tributes and by the firing of the starters pistol by retired Army Col. Tom Briscoe, a member of The Columbia Rotary Club, which sponsors the race.

Howard County Striders
The Howard County Striders held their annual all-fruit relay May 25 at Oakland Mills. Members of the Oakland Mills community must have been perplexed watching the four members of Team Dominate speeding on foot through the neighborhood carrying a watermelon. Despite the relatively heavy baton, their middle-of-the-pack finish was impressive. Other teams carried a variety of smaller fruit batons in this annual 4x2 mile relay race.
