HCLP Lightning

Hopkins and Syracuse, girls Lightning teams, squared off in the Gold Championship game June 7. In the sweltering heat Hopkins beat Syracuse, 10-9. Hopkins got off to a quick start due to the defensive play of Caitlin Ohnmacht, Sarah VonLange, Bailee Thomas and Maija Ranta. The offense was led in goals by Lily Kennedy. Hopkins also got scoring from Allie McAuley, Brenna Martin, Anastacia Topaltzas, Kelsey Cummings and Camila Ranta, who scored her first goal of the season. Hopkins showed great improvement throughout the season.

Syracuse fought back and made the score 6-4 at half. Madison Diehlmann led her team with scoring. Hannah Schied, Emma Miller, Kalieann Sheperd and Peyton Conley also chipped in goals. A great job was done on defense by Emilia Uribe, Stephanie Moran, Abby Kim and Giovanna Alli. Syracuse showed impressive sportsmanship.

In scorching heat at Western Regional Park, Notre Dame beat Virginia, 5-3, in the Boys Lightning Gold Championship game June 7. Notre Dame's offense was led in scoring by Mak Kennedy. Adding goals were Clark Smith, Ryan Tiffey and Josh Koller. Jackson Duffy contributed to the win with a great assist to his teammate on the crease.

Strong field play and defense by Jeffrey Kordenbrock, Eric Biegel, Danny Callahan, Bladen Miller, Zeke Narcise and goalie Guy Scarpaci held Virginia's high-powered offense to only three goals.

Addison Testoff recorded all three Virginia goals and was helped out by the great field play of James Felix and Jake Smith who controlled many face-offs. Virginia's defense, anchored by Max Wike, kept the game close in the second half.

Soccer

SAC travel

The Soccer Association of Columbia United Premier (U-11 boys) NCSL Division 1 finished its season with a 2-1 victory over VYS Premier Red. Both teams played hard despite the extreme heat, but it was SAC that took the lead with seconds left in the first half when Noah Fu crossed to Mike Heitzmann, who scored the first goal.

The second half was played tough by both teams, and SAC's hard work again paid off when Max Dwyer assisted Heitzmann on SAC's second goal.

Premier Red responded with a goal midway through the second half, but strong defensive play by Jacob Soriano, Noah Fu, Chris Haskins, and goalkeeper Chris Johnson, along with continuous pressure by offensive players Dwyer, Reggie Belgrave, Chad Strothers, Joe Tolson, Alex Lingg and Heitzmann prevented the opponents from scoring again.
