Triathlon
Kerri Robbins (ages 35-39): placed first at the Eagleman Half-Iron Triathlon, in Cambridge. Robbins qualified for the Hawaii Ironman as well as the half-iron world championships.
Team DU2R had four finishers in the top 18 of the Thundergust Duathlon held in Pittsgrove, N.J.:
Adam Forgione: (ages 25-29): placed first and 10th overall.
Jeff Timm (ages 55-59): placed first and 15th overall.
Lee Wilk (ages 50-54): placed first and 17th overall.
Don Forgione (ages 55-59): placed second and 18th overall.
Two members of DU2R, Adam Driscoll and Patrick Blair, racing on the four-man Adventures for the Cure relay team, are currently in fourth place after 2100+ miles in the Race Across America.
Their team is one of only two teams doing the race on fixed gear bikes, something never done before in the RAAM.
Softball
The HCYP Patriots (14-U) won the USSSA Freedom Qualifier Tournament June 14-15 in Eldersburg. The Patriots went 6-0-1 for the weekend. On Sunday, the No. 3-seeded Patriots put on an impressive display winning four straight games and knocking off the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds to capture the tournament championship.
In the championship game the Patriots beat the No. 1-seeded Shockers from Hughesville, 2-1. The team received outstanding pitching from Jen Lingg, who ended the weekend with an ERA of 1.09.
The team played outstanding defense and was led by Katie Baily, Nicole Drummond and Molly Garza. A solid hitting attack was led by Maggie Waters (.591), Brianna Montgomery (.565), Beth Wehr (.438) and Jen Roberts (.400).
In addition, Megan Hamilton, Kaitlyn Paddy and Jackie LaPointe contributed key hits throughout the weekend. With the tournament win the team has qualified for the USSSA Nationals that will be held in Orlando, Fla., at the Walt Disney World Resort in July.
Golf
Turf Valley women struggled through 18-holes of golf June 5. Helen Griffin won A1 with low gross/net/putts of 101/83/36. Janice Jennings took A2 honors with 106/80/36, and Grace Perna took B1 with 108/79/33, sharing low net honors with Rita Gallizzo. Sharon Sadler was B2 low gross/net winner (118/82), and Carmen Vaessen and Karen Iampieri took low putts honors (35).
Tae Kang, Carole Ruppel, Arlene Young and Sadler went the farthest to plant their flags on Flag day. Kang also won low gross/net for A1 (81/71), and Ok Sun Kim had 30 putts. Newcomer Cindy Starnes took A2 low gross/net honors (90/65), and Kathy Lehner also had 30 putts.
Young played well below her handicap for B1 low gross/net honors (99/67), but there was a three-way tie for low putts amongst Loretta Greer, Maureen Hunter and Agnes Thiem. Sadler took all honors for B2 (100/65/33).
